Most people who have never been published, and many famous
authors, do not have any clear understanding of what exactly happens when a book
gets published.
There is much more to publishing a book than an editor at
a house simply saying, "I want this book," and getting it put on the shelves of
bookstores.
Publishing is a highly political, time-consuming process,
involving the interactions and decision-making of many people from all parts of
the industry: editors, design editors, production editors, cover artists,
